Only the daily temperature records will be added for the city for now.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-14410597996940253632013-01-28T06:52:24.626-06:002013-01-28T06:52:24.626-06:00Light snow will begin in Winnipeg within the next ...Light snow will begin in Winnipeg within the next hour or two. Doesn't look like we'll get a whole lot; I'm expecting 1-3 cm. We may get a tad more if we get under a heavier band.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-70857173109812890352013-01-25T18:51:11.124-06:002013-01-25T18:51:11.124-06:00Totals across the city yesterday and last night we...Totals across the city yesterday and last night were between 6 and 9 cm.

Snow depth at my place in south St. Vital is now 41 cm. Snow depth at Charleswood (where the official measurements for the city are taken) is at 42 cm.

A warmup begins tomorrow with rising temperatures tomorrow night, and will continue until Tuesday when more snow will be possible, followed by a return to the deep freeze mid week. Temperatures may reach as high as the mid minus single digits on Sunday and Monday.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-80924069567354081152013-01-24T21:26:45.788-06:002013-01-24T21:26:45.788-06:00About 5 to 6 cm so far in the city, however it'...About 5 to 6 cm so far in the city, however it's a difficult measure giving all the drifting snow. Either way, amounts are coming quite in line with my prediction of 5-10 cm for the city.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-87443038904803822772013-01-24T15:55:22.458-06:002013-01-24T15:55:22.458-06:00The RRV, including Winnipeg, ended up in a bit of ...The RRV, including Winnipeg, ended up in a bit of dry slot this afternoon which has halted snowfall. However another band is entering the city right now as I write this so expect conditions to worsen any minute now.

Blowing snow warnings have been issued for the entire RRV, including Winnipeg for this evening so visibilities will be quite reduced at times in blowing snow. Take caution on those roads.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-73024042987199044132013-01-24T07:00:33.572-06:002013-01-24T07:00:33.572-06:00Yikes, widespread lows between -37°C and -39°C in ...Yikes, widespread lows between -37°C and -39°C in the Interlake and southeastern Manitoba overnight. This pocket of coldest air closer to the high pressure centre and where skies clouded up the latest was as close to Winnipeg as Dugald with a low of -39.2°C! Got all the way down -35°C at the Winnipeg airport.

Temperatures have since warmed for the most part throughout southern Manitoba thanks to increasing cloud and a southerly wind as a clipper system moves in this afternoon. The snow is expected to begin in Winnipeg sometime around noon and continue until about midnight or so. The snow may be heavy at times. In total I expect 5-10 cm for the city, and that goes for a swath from Swan River to Brandon, to Gimli, Winnipeg, Steinbach and Sprague. 3-6 cm basically anywhere else outside this zone.

Winds look even stronger than what I was anticipating yesterday. Looks like we'll see gusts as high as 60 with sustained winds near 40 at times. This will give a good amount of blowing snow, especially in open areas and in rural areas. Winds will drop off tonight.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-76484871394357835342013-01-23T06:54:21.909-06:002013-01-23T06:54:21.909-06:00This is how it looks for tomorrow's clipper sy...This is how it looks for tomorrow's clipper system right now:

Snowfall will begin in the afternoon and end in the overnight tomorrow night. 4-8 cm still looking like a good range for Winnipeg. With winds of 30 km/h from the southeast there may be some drifting snow, but blowing snow shouldn't be a major issue with this system as opposed to the past few systems we had last week.

Despite the system, we will remain on the cold side of it with highs in the low minus teens, still over 5 degrees below normal. We wont get into some milder air until Saturday with temperatures potentially getting into the minus single digits by Sunday and early next week. At this point, it looks like we'll return into the deep freeze by mid next week. The cool down would bring more snowfall, but it is too early to fix a precise date for that at this point.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-1398475639901532552013-01-22T17:20:44.877-06:002013-01-22T17:20:44.877-06:00Our next chance for snowfall will be on Thursday a...Our next chance for snowfall will be on Thursday and Thursday night with a clipper system. 4-8 cm looks likely at this point but I will update tomorrow and Thursday.jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-77479519005594266212013-01-21T16:55:00.093-06:002013-01-21T16:55:00.093-06:00Could get very cold tonight (colder than last nigh...Could get very cold tonight (colder than last night) with lows in the mid minus thirties for Winnipeg thanks to lighter winds and clearer skies compared to last night. Of course this is at the airport, downtown will be a few degrees warmer as usual (downtown only got down to -28°C last night but could hit -30°C tonight).jjcwpghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03353008394397372445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5071575595521727141.post-48812885326717716212013-01-21T06:52:07.737-06:002013-01-21T06:52:07.737-06:00Low last night was -33.1°C at the airport, the col...Low last night was -33.1°C at the airport, the coldest temperature recorded at the airport since Jan 30, 2011 at -34.7°C.
