Heat Returns

After a period of cooler weather, temperatures are finally beginning to rebound in southern Manitoba for this week. Today is just the beginning of what will be a few dog days of summer mid week. Seasonal highs near 25 or 26°C are expected with plently of sunshine.

Tomorrow will really heat up. A southwesterly flow will usher in some hot and dry air. Highs between 30 and 32°C are expected in most of southern Manitoba, mainly along and south of the Trans Canada. There will be plenty of sunshine, and humidity levels will be low.

Wednesday will be similar, with highs near 30°C, along with lots of sunshine and low humidity.

Things look hot through to the weekend. Thursday may be the hottest day. NAM is bringing mid thirty degree highs. Thankfully, how ever hot it will be, humidity is expected to remain on the lower side of things.

The next rain and cooler weather looks to move in sometime next weekend, so in the mean time enjoy the heat!

  2. The next addition to this blog, and possibly the last, is the St Vital Data tab. These will be temperature are precipitation observations from my very own station. I check the quality of these observations all the time to ensure that the data is accurate. This feature will take a couple weeks to add to the blog.

  3. I'll add that I also take snow depth measurements in the winter in my yard. I will admit that I have a small enclosed yard, therefore these measurements wont be the most accurate considering that most measurements are taken in fields. However, mine would more accurately represent the snow depth in most backyards in the city.
I also note the duration of thunderstorm activity at my place, as well as if hail fell.

  4. Something is wrong with the weather station at the airport. It is not updating the current conditions this afternoon.
All I can say is that most stations in the city are around 29°C as of 3 PM.

  5. Thunderstorms will be possible Thursday throughout southern Manitoba, however the risk looks marginal at best. Not the best setup at this point. Will keep an eye on it though.

  6. Highs between 30 and 32°C expected for the city today. Similar tomorrow, except perhaps a degree cooler if we get more cloud than anticipated. Friday at this point could be the hottest day with highs between 32 and 34°C possible depending on cloud coverage.
Normal highs right now are still around 25°C and low around 12°C (1981-2010 normals).

  7. Warm front has passed north of Winnipeg now, and as a result temperatures are skyrocketing and dewpoints are falling quickly with a nice southerly flow tapping drier air to our south. Looks like we may actually reach about 33°C today for the city. Looks like the NAM won over the GEM today.

  8. For the statistics page, when I go through all the data, it takes longer to go through the years 2002 to 2012 than it does to go through 1872 to 2002! That just goes to show how messed up the data is beyond 2002. It's just very unfortunate considering we're in the 21st century...

  9. Sun will be coming out very soon in the city if it hasn't in your area yet. Thanks to this added sunshine, highs around 30 or 31°C are likely. An isolated shower or storm will be possible later this afternoon and early evening, but it's a VERY small chance. I wouldn't count on anything.

  10. The latest on thunderstorm potential today is now available in the thunder forecast tab.

  11. There is still a chance that we'll get something in Winnipeg this evening, but the risk is small. There's lots of cumulus and altocumulus fields to our south and west, and these could become storms sooner or later.
