I haven't made new posts lately due to the uncertainty in the storm forecasts lately.. this is just a new place for comments about the potential in the next few days.
Still a chance of some strong storms associated with the warm front close to the US border this afternoon and early evening. Time will tell if this thin cirrus cloud deck will limit storms or not.
yeah, I don't really the cap right now and all this debris cloud today. really beginning to look like this will inhibit storms tonight. I think if we do see storms they'll drift in from North Dakota or Southeast SSK. Don't like the slack mid-level flow either at the moment.
JJ, I still yet have to experience my first full blown MCS. Any chance we could see one tonight with strong winds, heavy rainfall, and intense lightning? Thanks a bunch :) -Mike
Was chasing with some friends, there were some lowerings but nothing that got too organised. 7.1 mm here in south St Vital as of 8:25 pm.. Looks like cell reforming over southwest Winnipeg, getting some thunder.
Could still see scattered storms however... for the sake of the flooded areas in the western parts of the city, let's hope Winnipeg doesn't get another drenching; at least not the areas that are flooded.

ReplyDeleteTemps climbing nicely despite that thin cloud deck. Up to 26C now YWG Airport as of 1PM. We'll see what unfolds later today.
ReplyDeleteSure having trouble forming this afternoon, but there's still some time. Better chance may be later in the evening tonight for Winnipeg.

ReplyDeleteStill looking good for storms tonight.
ReplyDeleteAgreed....but likely elevated stuff at this point....Have noticed that HRRR is liking that idea of elevated storms for us tonight.
ReplyDeleteBetter than nothing, hopefully we can get a good light show and rainfall :)
DeleteYeah, that would be awesome....even with elevated storms could still see strong winds and hail.

ReplyDeletePotential is there for storms, maybe an mcs yes.. but we'll have to watch and wait.
DeleteSome cells trying to get going in the RRV right now.. Will have to watch in the next bit.
Yeah and a Severe thunderstorm Watch is now in effect for Winnipeg and much of Southern Manitoba....Let the storms begin
ReplyDeleteLooks like that cell just SW of Winnipeg has weakened perhaps having a tough time against the cap for now
ReplyDeleteLooks like Winnipeg is missing out on some action....nearly stationery storm just west of city dropping copious rainfall and is severe storm warned..

Looks like mcs potential will stay south of the border tonight.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Not much at this point across Southern Manitoba. I suspect the severe thunderstorm watch will end over the next hour or two.
