@lovestormsMB from AWM and I went to the south Perimeter last night to view a storm cell that was heading straight for Winnipeg. Unfortunately, the storm died before hitting the city and as a result only showers fell. It was sure a nice storm to take pictures of though!
A timelapse by @lovestormsMB can also be viewed here.
By the way, I received 30.5 mm here in south St Vital from yesterday night's rains/storms. Lighter amounts fell to my north with 22.2 mm at the Forks and just 12.4 mm in Transcona according to @CKStamms.
Things look drier for the next few days. We'll see some scattered showers today, but they shouldn't accumulate to a whole lot, unless if you get under a thunderstorm. Best risk for thunderstorms however will be to our west.
ReplyDeleteIt looks much sunnier for Saturday and Sunday. It will be warm, reaching the mid 20's on Saturday and high 20's on Sunday.
Next chance for rain, and maybe thunderstorms, looks like Tuesday.
JJ, the storm that died out that you chased did reorganize itself by me East of beausejour. It topped out at about 30,000 feet and gave off quite a bit of lightning. It sure was interesting to watch as it developed. I'm glad I had the opportunity to see it..
ReplyDeleteJust an old tradition.. Dissipates before hitting and reorganises after clouds had passed :P Was a good day to be in Beausejour for you Mike with 2 storms!
DeleteJJ,
ReplyDeleteI was taking a walk down my street today and i saw that about half of a extremely old tree was fallen over someones front lawn. Would you say it blew down yesterday or it blew or got hit by lighting tuesday night? I would guess tuesday night when the MCS rolled through . The branch was facing west.
If it fell only recently then I guess it could have been either case; most likely due to the wind I think, but I haven't seen the tree myself so I can't say for sure.
DeleteHere's just a few of the signs to look for if you think a tree was hit by lightning... http://www.ehow.com/how_8159176_tree-struck-lightning.html
Thanks, i think that it was struck by lighting.
DeleteJJ,
ReplyDeleteI noticed that EC has a high of 40 on tuesday for kamloops BC.Is that realistic?
A large ridge will be building over western Canada this weekend into next week. Highs close to 40°C will definitely be possible in parts of the BC Interior that are prone to these extreme summer temperatures. Environment Canada even mentions it in a special weather statement for the area. Luckily for them, this type of heat is not as humid as it is here.
DeleteLine of trailing thunderstorms west of the Red River this afternoon creating some heavy downpours. Charleswood up to 10 mm already in the last hour, whereas not a drop here in south St Vital. Incredibly Charleswood is up to 150 mm so far this month. Only 69.4 mm at my place.
