Rainfall Poll

Thunderstorms and showers are expected this evening in Winnipeg. You can give your feedback on how much rain you think Winnipeg will get in the following poll! (The answer will be determined using an average of rainfall accumulation at robsobs and at my place in South St Vital).

Update 6:21 PM: Poll closed due to lack of respondents

Regions of southwestern Manitoba, especially south of Brandon, need to be on the lookout for severe weather today. Large hail, damaging winds, flooding rains are possible. A tornado cannot be ruled out, especially closer to the US border. Will continue to monitor the situation today...

Storms will likely merge into a line tonight and move east into the RRV this evening. Best risk for severe activity with this is south of Winnipeg, but Winnipeg could still see storms and rains.

  1. A heads up that there may be some interruptions in the forecast updates late this week...

  2. Certainly not much going along the front on our side of the border so far. Everything's blowing up in North Dakota. All the debris cloud and showers/storms today on our side of border surely put a dent in the potential. Could still see some storms along the front later... but they may not be surface-based due to the lack of heating.

  3. I don't think storms are gonna be much of a concern for Winnipeg tonight. Line of storms in the west through the day is weakening to an area of rain as it moves into the city over the supper hour which is typically the case. At this point not much happening as far as big storms are concerned in Southwest MB thus far. Even if storms fire in Southwest MB, they will travel ESE anyway which would put Winnipeg north of the action tonight.

  4. Finally getting some storm formation west of Brandon. Hopefully things don't die as soon as they blow up.

  5. Already hearing distant thunder but the storms are still only about to reach Elie. Looks like Winnipeg may actually get something.

    1. May even see 2 storms roll through. A note that you should beware of the radar at this time because it is showing some attenuation issues at the moment.

  6. Finally done for the night...I would say definately the most intense lightning we've seen here in Winnipeg in a few years. Lots of cloud to ground strikes this evening.

    1. Yeah, I haven't heard thunder that loud in a few years.
Only 12.1 mm here in south St Vital, we kind of missed out on the worst.

22.1 mm in Charleswood and 29 mm in Norwood.

  8. Certainly not looking too interesting in the next few days for storm potential. There might be some storm activity Wednesday, but it doesn't look overly significant at this time.

  9. Certainly not feeling very July like these days either. Unfortunately looks like the cooler weather is gonna stick around for the next few days. Long range hinting at some more summerlike weather returning next week but don't expect any significant heat either.

  10. Note: Forecasts may see some interruptions in the next few days (some days not being updated) due to some things going on in the next few days for me. Sorry in the advance for the inconvenience.

  13. It sure was nice to have that short period of warmer weather from June to mid July but now we are back into normal 2013 weather. That is below normal temperatures. One word that describes 2013 weatherwise is...pathetic. What a difference a year can make.
