Freezing Rain Possible Tonight; Major Cool Down Coming

Some light snow will continue this morning with little accumulation. Overall, a mild day with a high near 0°C to 1°C. The high may not actually be reached until evening however.

Clipper system begins moving in tonight. A period of showers, freezing rain or ice pellets looks likely later in the evening and overnight. Not expecting much accumulation, but this will definitely make roads quite slick.

Periods of snow will begin sometime around midday tomorrow and continue until early Monday. Temperatures will plummet tomorrow afternoon along with this snow, dipping into the mid minus teens by Monday morning. Strong northwest winds will create blowing and drifting snow both tomorrow and Monday. As for snowfall totals, 3-6 cm looks like a good range for Winnipeg right now, but will update in the comments if that changes.

We'll struggle to exceed -10°C on Monday. Skies should clear in the afternoon or late day.

The core of the cold air does not reach us until Wednesday-Thursday. Absolutely dreadful temperatures are expected late week with highs in the mid minus teens and lows well into the -20's likely... Cold even by January standards and at least 10°C below normal for late November.

  1. Seems like last year all over again. Warms up for a couple days, it snows and then it drastically cools off to "below normal" temperatures. Yippie. :(

  2. Jusr another reason to call it a "SAD" month.,,

  3. Thankfully, the freezing rain did not materialise overnight. A nice start near 0°C though... Arctic blast begins moving in midday with plummeting temperatures this afternoon and evening, reaching minus teens by late evening. Snow will begin midday as well with 2-5 cm likely by midnight. Winds will become strong this afternoon as well, giving blowing and drifting snow.

Clearing tomorrow, but we wont warm much, likely not exceeding -10°C. Cloudier Tuesday and another weak system will bring some snow for Tuesday evening. Additional 2-5 cm likely by Wednesday morning. Absolutely frigid Wednesday as the coldest air of the season moves in. We'll likely see falling temperatures through part of the day with temperatures hovering close to -20°C for the afternoon... Truly January-like.

  4. By the way, both the Manitoba & Canada 2014 t-storm summaries will have to wait until early December.

  6. Snow beginning later than expected, but we should still see some later today. I'm thinking 2-4 cm maximum by tomorrow morning. Wouldn't be surprised if we got even less.

    1. We'll be lucky to get any accumulation at all at this rate... Not that I'm complaining!

  7. Well, I'll officially call this ''storm'' a big nothing - more bark than bite for sure. Looks like we'll see some light flurry activity through the night with likely less than 1 cm or possibly even no accumulation if we get that lucky.

As for Tuesday night, NAM really keeping things further west than before... so that snow event starting to be questioned. We're sure good at dodging storms this winter so far!

  8. Well, after a couple months of above normal temps, November willl more than likely finish below normal as has been the case for much of 2014. Why not finish the year, the same way it started, right? only fitting. Here's hoping 2015 brings us something other than below normal for a change, but I wouldn't bet on it.

    1. Unfortunately, that looks true. No light at the end of the tunnel right now. What little hope there was a week ago currently no longer exists, with predominently colder than normal conditions for at least a couple more weeks.

    2. Maybe it's time to recalculate what we call normal temperatures.

  9. Well, absolutely no accumulation of snow here with this past system. Incredible flop of a system.

Chance of snow remains late in the day tomorrow, but looks like worst will stay to our south and west. Could pick up 1 cm here if we're unlucky, but I wouldn't be surprised if only got a dusting.

Absolutely frigid Wednesday and Thursday as already mentioned. We'll likely bottom out around -22 to -25°C Wednesday morning and not rise much at all in the afternoon. If we're unlucky, we may not even exceed -20°C, but I'm calling for around -18°C or -19°C. Coldest night of the year will be Wednesday night with lows deep into the -20's likely, potentially as low as -26 to -28°C. Can't rule out a few -30°C readings in some parts of southern Manitoba.

Next snow potential will be late week, Friday-Saturday period.
